Dan Scott has been host of Cruise Control since Feb. 2001, and affiliated with 104.9 FM The Drive, WCCP - the Clemson flagship station - since 1999. His three-hour talk show is an anomaly among many in the industry today - he actually talks sports, and does so in a conversational, welcoming style. Yeah, he can get testy at times, and from time-to-time he can be downright silly. But it's a style which has made his show a must-hear for folks all over the Upstate of South Carolina and, thanks to the live web stream, all over the world. Dan's work on the Clemson beat has made him the go-to source when it comes to the important interviews. The head coaches in all three major sports at the school - Dabo Swinney in football, Brad Brownell in basketball and Jack Leggett in baseball - appear weekly on Cruise Control in season. But the show is so much more than Clemson. The Furman coaches also appear in season. There are regular appearances from University of South Carolina broadcaster Andy Demetra. ACC wizard Dave Glenn provides insight into that conference like nobody else, and Daniel Shirley of the Macon Telelgraph delivers all the news on the SEC. Want NFL insight? Former Cincinnati and Tampa Bay head coach (and now Pickens Co. Commissioner) Sam Wyche is on every Tuesday. National guests? How about Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman as a regular? Or the best college basketball writer in the business, Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News? Athletes, on-air personalities, authors...the list (a portion of which can be seen below) is impressive. From Fletcher's Forecast with former Clemson kicker Fletcher Anderson, to the on-the-beat inside information of TigerIllustrated.com's Larry Williams, to in-studio co-hosts Tom Van Hoy (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and Cobb Oxford (whenever he decides to show up), Cruise Control offers something for everyone. When Dan isn't hosting the show, he's The Drive's play-by-play voice for Clemson baseball and women's basketball, as well as the high school football game of the week. Dan also does baseball for the Clemson network, and hosts various studio shows on the station and the network. And finally, he writes two columns a week for CUTigers.com, and blogs regularly about his current weight-loss battle. In a previous life, Dan was an award-winning sports editor/writer for a number of newspapers in West Virginia, Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina. He is a two-time winner of the West Virginia Press Association's first place award for Best Sports Page or Section. Dan has been married to the very patient Angela since Sept. 1, 1989. They have two beautiful daughters - Samantha, the college girl; and Rebekah, the future queen of softball.
